Welcome to Curly Flats Pottery
My husband John, son Nick and I moved to Greenville in 1995 when Nick was almost 2 years old. I worked from home as a computer programmer until 2005. I grew up in Southern Oregon and met John in the Navy in Florida. John is from Virginia and we started our lives together there and through job changes have found our way to Greenville, NC.
I have tried many different art forms since I was young, such as painting, basket weaving, woodworking, stained glass, weaving, and pottery. While I still do stained glass and some woodworking, I wish I would have discovered my love of making pottery years ago, but then life is a journey and there is a lot to uncover.
I have always enjoyed making things using my own hands and had always wanted to try making pottery. That opportunity came in 2004 when I took a class at Greenville Recreation and Parks (GRPD). I was instantly hooked and now have my own studio at home. I love starting with that lump of clay and making something utilitarian from it and then adding to it by carving, altering, color or color combinations of the glazes, and firing techniques. I want people who use my pottery to enjoy the look, feel and usefulness of each piece. My goal is to make functional, harmonious, inviting, pieces that you will want to make use of in your daily life.
I now teach pottery at GRPD and load and fire the kilns. I continue to take classes for my own growth, enrichment and enjoyment. I also teach Pre-K thru 4th grade Art and a ceramics hand-building course in the upper school at The Oakwood School.
I have included past and present work in my website and I hope you will enjoy looking through my photos.
Sincerely,
Cindy Reed
